King and the Courtier: Dyrham’s Garden Revealed
Monday 8th May
Time: 7.30pm Price £10
Dale Dennehy, Garden and Park Manager at Dyrham Park, gives an illustrated talk on the restoration of the gardens, particularly some elements of the 17th century terraced gardens.
Dyrham’s estate, comprising a lavish country house and garden, was originally built by William Blathwayt to impress King William 111 with features such as a Dutch water garden now sadly lost.
However, thanks to a 17th century engraving by Johannes Kip, the garden team has a good idea of what the gardens would have looked like and is using this as an inspiration for the ongoing project.
