Walk at Purton

Sunday 7th May

Time 10 – 2 pm – Please note this walk is now sold out but there is another on 14th May.

Price £6 (includes tea)

Meeting Point: Carpark opposite St John’s Church, Riddle St. Purton.

A 2hr guided walk around Purton hulks led by Paul Barnett at 10am (and 2pm) followed by refreshments. Once morning tickets are sold out, afternoon tickets will be made available.  The hulks are a number of abandoned boats and ships, deliberately beached beside the River Severn near Purton in Gloucestershire, to reinforce the river banks. Most were beached in the 1950s and are now in a state of considerable decay. The site forms the largest ship graveyard in mainland Britain.[ One barge has been scheduled as an ancient monument and several are included in the National Register of Historic Vessels.
